The inspiration behind the ResoNet Pavilion is deeply rooted in the resonance frequencies inherent in the natural environment. The pavilion's form, reminiscent of a jingle bell, invites visitors to ring in the New Year and make wishes. Its vibrant exterior reflects a Chinese fairy tale about the Phoenix, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune.
The ResoNet Pavilion stands out for its unique properties. By day, the LED net is almost invisible, and the pavilion's translucent polypropylene surface provides a backdrop. At night, the outer skin's color changes based on the viewer's perspective and surrounding lighting conditions. The pavilion also serves as a stage for outdoor events, making it a popular meeting point during the Chinese New Year festival.
Creating the ResoNet Pavilion involved a blend of techniques and materials. Rhino Script, laser-cut sheets, and handmade LED components were used in its construction. The pavilion's structure was a challenge, requiring a balance between structural stiffness, stability, and lightness. The team also had to deal with tolerance for site installation.
The ResoNet Pavilion is more than just a visual spectacle; it's an interactive experience. It responds to vibration stimuli, illuminating the public realm. Visitors can interact with the LED net, making Spring Festival wishes with friends and family. The pavilion was on display from December 30, 2016, to February 16, 2017, at Sinan Mansions LED Plaza in Shanghai.
The ResoNet Pavilion has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
